Ageing & Sexing
A training package

Over the past five years I have been collecting digital photographs of birds in the hand showing all aspects of moult, age and sexing strategies

These photographs have been collated into a training presentation package with Microsoft PowerPoint which can be used by new trainee ringers/banders to understand the importance of moult strategy in ageing passerine birds.  Although most of the photographs are of British species the strategies they use to attain adult plumage is the same for most passerine species the world over.

Initially I have been making this presentation available to ringers in Britain but after showing some banding colleagues in the United States I have been asked if it is available there.  With this in mind I am endeavouring to add neararctic species on my visits to the states although the information on moult in the presentation can be used at present.

The following thumbnails give some examples the of feather tracts, moult, age and sex slides from the presentation.

Many of the slides initially ask a question on moult/age/sex and then the next slides gives the answer and reasoning for this as in the two thumbnails below
