Redstart, Rocket Pole Field (Mark Pearson)

Redstart, Rocket Pole Field (Mark Pearson)

A generally settled, cool day with a light variable breeze which was headlined by a male Serin, which flew low south over Carr Naze and the Country Park calling several times early this morning (MJP).

Plenty of other activity included a pair of Garganey at the Dams (MJP et al.), a Redstart by Carr Naze Pond, a Short-eared Owl at the Tip and then east, Wheatears at Carr Naze, North Cliff and the Gap (where three Manxies and a Whimbrel went north). Whinchats remained at the Tip and the Rocket Pole Field.

A small influx of warblers including double figures of Lesser Whitethroats, while Common Sandpipers were at the Bay Ponds and the Dams.¬†Our young drake Surf Scoter passed another unlikely anniversary today – it’s now been five months since he was first found frequenting the bay.
