4th December 2015
The bird of the month so far involves the extraordinary record of a Bittern flushed after dark yesterday evening by part of our ringing team from Carr Naze Pond (DL, GD), the first (and likely last) of the year. Today, another Mediterranean Gull was briefly at East Lea, where there were also 25 Siskins, 64 Pink-footed Geese, seven Shovelers, 17 Oystercatchers, two Argentatus Herring Gulls, seven Curlews and a pair of Mute Swans. A Great Northern Diver went north this morning, while another was still present in the bay.
A late report concerned eight Whooper Swans over the Dams on 2nd. More fresh and top quality content is available over on the ringing blog page, including the background to a record year for Long-tailed Tits – see here for more.
