15th December 2015

With unhelpful conditions and little in the way of movements it was looking like a predictably quiet week locally – until today…. proving once again that December always seems to produce the goods here in Filey, our seventh-ever¬†Surf Scoter¬† – a young drake – materialised in the Bay off the Brigg late morning (MJP), one of only two ducks in the bay (the other a Goldeneye); later on, a Pallas’s Warbler was reported from the trees along the footpath behind Deepdene shortly before dusk (J&TGD).

Otherwise, it’s been pretty much as you were – Great Northern Divers have been recorded on most days (including one in the bay corner today), a Goldeneye was at the Dams on 14th (where a Kingfisher was reported earlier in the week), and five Whooper Swans went south on 9th.
