19th October 2015
A quieter day today with a general clear-out of passerine migrants, although plenty of Goldcrests and handfuls of e.g. Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps remain, as well as reasonable numbers of thrushes; four Goosander overflew the Country Park, and unusually, a Swallow was caught and ringed in Top Scrub. Yesterday (18th) saw a Great White Egret over the Country Park (TH, JH, MJP) mid-morning – only our second ever, after the first at the Dams in 2013 -as well as a Merlin over Carr Naze, a Great Northern Diver south past the Brigg, and a Med Gull and 30 Bonxies past the Gap.
Additional news for 17th involved two Velvet Scoters north and a Kingfisher at the Brigg, and a Balearic Shearwater, a Pomarine Skua and 21 Bonxies past the Gap (KC).
