A north-westerly airflow with a fine morning and a stormy afternoon delivered similar species and numbers to previous days (although many of the birds were fresh-in); Goldcrests numbered at least 200, with other migrants including two new Yellow-browed Warblers together at the top end of Long Lane, three Ring Ouzels, 11 Chiffchaffs, 29 Bramblings (including 25 in the canopy of Church Ravine) and five Blackcaps. Barn Owls were in Top Scrub and at the Tip, with a Short-eared Owl at the latter site and several Common Buzzards in the area. Late news also of a Firecrest in Arndale this morning (JS).
Another excellent haul from the ringers consisted of 120 birds today – 109 new, 11 re-traps: Goldcrest 50 (6), Chiffchaff 2, Blackcap 2, Reed Bunting 2, Lesser Redpoll 1, Siskin 1, Brambling 1, Chaffinch 4, Bullfinch 3, Greenfinch 17 (1), Goldfinch 1, Redwing 2, Song Thrush 2, Blackbird (1), Robin 3, Dunnock 1, Coal Tit 3, Blue Tit 5 (1), Great Tit 3, Long-tailed Tit 5, Woodpigeon 1.
