Common Sandpiper (Pauline Eccles)

Common Sandpiper (Pauline Eccles)

A particularly unremarkable few days locally, with little to speak of either on the land or at sea. The two Kingfishers which set up temporary shop on the Brigg several days ago remained until at least yesterday, land-based migrants have been confined to single Stonechat, Whinchat, Redstart and Pied Flycatcher (plus up to ten Goldcrest and Chiffchaffs and three Wheatears), and a Velvet Scoter was easily the pick of the latter this morning (and indeed the last few days). Three Little Egrets went south at the Gap yesterday with one still hanging around the Dams and East Lea, where waders have included up to five Ruff.
