Sooty Shearwater, 15th (Mark Pearson)

A quiet day today with two Sooty Shearwaters the best of a benign sea, two Kingfishers still on the Brigg, and grounded migrants including a White Wagtail at East Lea, single Pied Flycatcher and Redstart, 12 Goldcrests, three Wheatears and five Chiffchaffs.

Yesterday (15th) saw a surprisingly productive four hour sea-watch from first light, with a juvenile Long-tailed Skua, a Balearic Shearwater, 14 Arctic Skuas, eight Sooty Shearwaters and two Little Gulls among other species on the move in a moderate southerly wind (MJP, JS, CW); the land was quiet, with single Whinchat and Spotted Flycatcher in the Country Park/Carr Naze area and 270 Meadow Pipits in the same vicinity.
