30th June 2015
Today was notable for this morning’s finch passage at the Gap, where an impressive 350 Siskins and 21 Crossbills headed south before 0800hrs. A further two Crossbills dropped into Arndale early on, but otherwise today was quiet (as might be expected given the clear, hot conditions). The female Shoveler and two Teal remain at the Dams, while a juvenile (just-fledged) Yellow Wagtail at East Lea is indicative of local breeding this year.
Yesterday (29th), a Pomarine Skua and a Mediterranean Gull went south on a morning sea-watch (JS), while counts of Painted Ladies peaked at five (also yesterday) and Curlews and Black-headed Gulls are trickling through.
