4th March 2015
Generally quiet still locally, with the highlight being three Avocets over the north of the town (CW) on 28th, sadly not subsequently dropping in at local wetlands. On the sea, minimal movements have at least included two Scaup on 26th (JS) but little else apart from expected ‘local’ species (with e.g. auks and Gannets now present in good numbers daily).
At the Dams and East Lea, Barn Owls are being seen with increasing frequency and two Buzzards circled overhead on 2nd, while up to 65 Wigeon, 35 Teal, 24 Coots, five Shelducks (disputing territory), at least three Water Rails and small numbers of Gadwall, Tufted Ducks and Shovelers are also present.
