Happy New Year from Filey Bird Observatory! After a short break over the holiday period we’re back as usual with regular updates; a summary of the recent days follows below.
A quiet Christmas period saw a Mute Swan north on 24th (the same bird heading south the previous day), two Great Northern Divers on 25th & 26th (with one off the Gap on occasion), a Little Gull north and a Pomarine Skua south on 27th and a Velvet Scoter south on 28th. Quieter still then until the last couple of days, which have seen Bonxies south past the Brigg (two) and the Gap (three) on 2nd, seven dark-bellied Brent Geese and a first-winter Glaucous Gull off the Brigg on 3rd (JS, BP, KW).
Today saw several Filey teams taking part in the Michael Clegg Memorial Bird Race, with the highlight being five Tundra Bean Geese in the Newbiggin area (NCt, KC, DL).
