8th September 2014

A generally quiet weekend locally, with little reported from the land and a steady reduction in the cast of waders at East Lea and the Dams. Visible migration has been muted until this morning when over 1,000 Meadow Pipits overflew Hunmanby Gap in three hours (994 south and 38 north), plus four Little Egrets and a Hobby (also south).

A Balearic Shearwater went north early morning of 6th, and 5th was notable for a brief Wood Warbler reported from Parish Wood (J&TGD), unfortunately not relocated, and the autumn’s first Red-necked Grebe off Hunmanby Gap.

Additionally, a Sooty Shearwater was reported to Birdguides today and there was another belated report of a Caspian Gull briefly off the brigg early morning on 5th.
