31st August 2014

A quiet day so far, with little of note on the land, at sea or overhead. A good day for visible migration yesterday (30th), however, saw over 1600 Swallows and 1500 House Martins, a Hobby, a Cuckoo, 33 Swifts and 55 Tree Sparrows all heading south at Hunmanby Gap amongst others (full counts here), and a good selection of waders remaining at East Lea and the Dams – in addition to recent counts, eight Black-tailed Godwits were at the Dams late on.

Mammal trapping and conservation work updates (the latter of which will temporarily affect where many of our waders choose to feed) can be seen on the news page here.
