21st March 2014

A Red Kite headed south over Hunmanby Gap late morning (NC), where strong visible migration included 13 Crossbills south, over a hundred each of Linnets and Meadow Pipits, and 20 Alba Wagtails. A new Velvet Scoter was in the bay there, and 11 Whooper Swans went north (also seen off the Brigg).

Yesterday (20th) saw an unusually heavy passage of over 1000 Meadow Pipits off the Brigg in the morning (with over 300 over Hunmanby Gap), where a Merlin, a Black-throated Diver and a Snow Bunting all passed by (JS).
