Promising conditions (north-easterlies, cloud and rain) brought limited returns today, although a Great Grey Shrike (JH) at Newbiggin was the main highlight. A Yellow-browed Warbler was by Deepdene (AB) and four Mealy Redpolls were in the Top Scrub (MJP). Plenty of commoner migrants included good counts of Goldcrests, Bramblings, Lesser Redpolls, Siskins, Redwings, Chiffchaffs, Song Thrushes, Blackbirds, Robins, Wrens, Blackcaps and Dunnocks. The best of the sea was a Black-throated Diver and an impressive 16 Velvet Scoters this morning (JS, BP).
