Welcome to the website of Filey Bird Observatory & Group (FBOG). Our aims include the recording and studying of Filey’s birds, and protecting and enhancing local habitats for wildlife (including ownership and management of several nature reserves). Our work is entirely voluntary and reliant on our membership and their generosity. Members receive a range of benefits, as well as regular newsletters, the annual report, and the satisfaction of helping the study and protection of local wildlife. Join here…. FBOG Membership
Message from the Chairman.
Many of you will now know that some of the officers of the observatory have resigned through pressures of work and we are gradually finding volunteers to run some of the work that was carried out by them. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Rich, Mark and Bec for their time and effort they have put in over the last few years.
As those who regularly come to Filey will have seen, the new hide at the Dams is now open and will be officially dedicated by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust later this year. This and the recent groundwork has only been achieved by observatory officers and YWT working together and an enthusiastic volunteer workforce putting it into practice and making sure the access path and screens were finished. I’m sure this will prove to be a popular and productive addition to the Dams.
The 2018 Filey Bird & Wildlife Report is well under way and will be published later this year and our 2019 Ringing & Migration is again planned for October.
The 2017 Filey Bird and Wildlife Report is now available for
£10 + £2 p&p, & the 2016 40th edition is also still available now for only £5 + £2 p&p (details here)
